15-year-old youth charged with first-degree murder – 18-year-old Manyok Akol found dead, and three others injured in Ottawa’s first homicide of 2020

Ottawa police and paramedics responded to reports of several people shot at the rear of a home at 490 Gilmour St on January 8th at approximately 7:30am. According to police, the home is an Airbnb.

Emergency crews arrived to find one deceased man who has been identified as Manyok Akol, 18, and 3 other victims suffering from injuries. The three victims a 15-year-old male, a 19-year-old male and a 20-year-old male, remain in hospital in serious condition.

Ottawa Police Major Crime Unit is seeking public assistance to identify and locate the suspect involved. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Ottawa Police Service Major Crime Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5493. 

Update May 8th
Ottawa Police Homicide Unit arrested a 15-year-old male on May 7th in relation to the shooting death of Manyok Akol. The youth has been formally charged with 1 count of First Degree Murder and 3 counts of Attempted Murder.
