Montreal police responded to 911 reports of screaming from an apartment on Desautels Street in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood on July 23rd at approximately 3:00am.
Police arrived to find a woman outside of the apartment, and her 6-year-old daughter inside, suffering from stab wounds. The child was rushed to hospital where she died from her injuries.
The 36-year-old woman was also taken to hospital for the treatment of minor injuries and was arrested. She is expected to appear in court on July 24th to face charges connected to the incident.
Update, The 36-year-old mother whose identity is under a court ordered publication ban was charged with second degree murder of her 6-year-old daughter.

Stéphanie Brossoit, the mother of 6-year-old Maellie Brossoit Nogueira has pleaded guilty to Manslaughter. According to reports Stéphanie was intoxicated at the time, and had taken perescription pills, gamma hydroxybutyrate, and a cannabis cake.
