A London man has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being found guilty in connection with a fatal drug overdose.

Jordan Colley, 35, was convicted of manslaughter and criminal negligence causing bodily harm following a trial at the London Courthouse. The case stemmed from a May 2023 drug transaction involving cocaine that unknowingly contained fentanyl.

The drugs were sold to a London couple, Christina Bestward, 41, and her partner, Daniel Gale. Bestward died from an overdose at her home, while Gale also overdosed and was taken to hospital but survived.

During sentencing, Justice Marc Garson spoke about the growing impact of fentanyl and the serious consequences associated with illegal drug trafficking. He noted that the London area continues to experience a significant number of drug-related deaths.

The Crown had requested a six-year prison sentence, while Colley’s defence argued for a conditional sentence, pointing to his remorse, employment and family responsibilities.

The judge ultimately sentenced Colley to three and a half years behind bars. After receiving credit for time already served, he has roughly 35 months remaining in custody.

Justice Garson described the case as a tragic example of how an illegal drug transaction can result in devastating consequences for individuals and families.

Before being taken from the courtroom, Colley turned toward his family for a final moment.
