Hamilton police responded to a report of a shooting at the area of 239 King St W at approximately 3:00pm.
The victim’s identity and suspect information has not been released. Police only stated that it is the city’s 13th homicide of the year. They also noted that there will be a heavy police presence as police investigate, and cautioned people to stay out of the area.
Update September 15th
The victim is identified as 19-year-old Sabir Hassen Omer from Hamilton, police said a second victim was able to flee from the suspect but did not sustain any injuries.
According to Hamilton police, the victims were approached by the suspect in the parking lot and a short verbal exchange occurred prior to the shooting. The suspect fled on foot southbound on Caroline Street toward Main Street. The suspect is described as male, 5’6-5’8, medium build, dressed in dark clothing, and dark shoes.
Hamilton Police are asking the public to check any surveillance cameras in the surrounding area between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Dave Brewster by calling 905-546-4067.
Update October 15th
After a lengthy investigation, the Hamilton Major Crime Unit executed four warrants in Hamilton and Halton on October 14th. Hamilton Police K9 Unit, Hamilton Police Emergency Response Unit, Halton Emergency Response Unit and Niagara Emergency Response Unit, arrested six people.
Police said they seized a number of guns and drugs, including four semi-automatic handguns, one fully automatic machine pistol, bulletproof vests, three silencers, ammunition and approximately $185,000 in cocaine and fentanyl.
Investigators discovered a link between the arrests and the homicides of Sabir Omar and Keden Bond. Investigators believe a number of individuals were involved with executing the murder of Sabir Omer.
