Edmonton police investigate the fatal shooting of Deng Malith Deng

Edmonton police  responded to the report of a shooting at a multi-unit residence in the area of 109 Avenue and 97 Street on August 26th at approximately 9:35am.

Police and paramedics arrived to find Deng Malith Deng, 32, suffering from serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he died as a result of a gunshot wound.

Edmonton Homicide investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Montana Houle, 21. Houle is wanted for second-degree murder (x2) in connection to the murders of Deng Malith Deng, 32, on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, and Trevor Waskahat, 24, on Tuesday, June 8, 2021.

Houle is described as an Indigenous male, 5’11” tall, 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He has two tattoos; the word “overcome” on his upper back and the “W” symbol on his left chest. Police believe he may still be in the Edmonton area, however, he is also known to have connections to the Calling Lake, Alberta area, north of Athabasca.

Investigators are urging anyone with information regarding Houle’s whereabouts to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567.

Update: On Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2021, Houle was arrested in Edmonton and charged with second degree murder (x2).
