Update: Victim identified – Edmonton Homicide unit investigating the suspicious death of a man

Edmonton police responded to the report of an injured male at a residence in the area of 98 Street and 108 Avenue on June 8th at approximately 7:20pm.

Paramedics treated treated and transported the 24-year-old male to hospital where he died of his injuries. Police have not released the victim’s identity or cause of death at this time.

Police said Homicide Section is investigating, and no further information will be released at this time.

Update June 18th
Edmonton police have identified the deceased as Travis Waskahat. An autopsy was completed and revealed the cause of death to be a stab wound, and the manner of death a homicide.

Update June 29th
Edmonton Homicide investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Montana Houle, 21. Houle is wanted for second-degree murder (x2) in connection to the murders of Deng Malith Deng, 32, on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, and Trevor Waskahat, 24, on Tuesday, June 8, 2021.

Houle is described as an Indigenous male, 5’11” tall, 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He has two tattoos; the word “overcome” on his upper back and the “W” symbol on his left chest. Police believe he may still be in the Edmonton area, however, he is also known to have connections to the Calling Lake, Alberta area, north of Athabasca.

Investigators are urging anyone with information regarding Houle’s whereabouts to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567.

Update: On Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2021, Houle was arrested in Edmonton and charged with second degree murder (x2).
