Burnaby RCMp were called to the 5000-block of Thorne Avenue for a report that human remains had been located in a vehicle on July 29th.
Police have not released the sex or identity of the victim and said they do not believe the death to be a random act of violence.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is now working with Burnaby RCMP on the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this investigation can call the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448).
Update August 1st
Police have identified the deceased as Randy Joseph Chan, 23, of Coquitlam. Randy reported missing on July 24th and was last seen on July 21.st.
