Burnaby BC 2026 Homicide Victim List
On the evening of January 22, 2026, just before 5:30 PM, Burnaby RCMP frontline officers were called to the area near the 3700 block of Canada Way after multiple reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a male victim who had been shot. Despite efforts by first responders to save him, the man did not survive.
Soon after, officers discovered a vehicle on fire in the 5000 block of Buxton Street. Investigators are now looking into whether that burned car is connected to the shooting.
Police say the inquiry is still in the early stages, but current information suggests this was likely a targeted attack. At this time, authorities do not believe there is any ongoing danger to the public. Officers are continuing to secure the scene and collect evidence as the investigation unfolds.
The case has now been taken over by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). Updates will be provided through IHIT’s Media Relations team as new information becomes available.
Update: the victim has been identified as 28-year-old Dilraj Singh Gill of Vancouver. IHIT stated that Gill was already on police radar, and investigators believe the shooting is connected to the B.C. gang conflict.
Investigators confirmed that the vehicle located burning in the 5000 block of Buxton Street is connected to the homicide.
“Homicide investigators are working closely with the Burnaby RCMP, the Lower Mainland District Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service to collect evidence and advance the investigation,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “A shooting, especially in a public place is extremely troubling, not only for the police but for the entire community. Information from witnesses and those in the area will be crucial in ensuring this investigation advances and to hold those responsible, accountable.”
IHIT investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam or surveillance footage, to come forward. They are particularly interested in video recorded between 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on January 22, 2026, along Canada Way between Boundary Road and Willingdon Avenue, as well as Buxton Street near Royal Oak Avenue and Forglen Drive.
IHIT is also seeking dashcam footage from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the area of Canada Way and Laurel Street, between Boundary Road and Gilmore Way, in Burnaby.
