Toronto police, responded to a call about gunshots in the area of Martha Eaton Way and Trethewey Drive, near Black Creek Drive, at 12:27 a.m. on August 16th.
On arrival police located an 8-year-old boy inside his home who had been struck by a stray bullet. Officers began life-saving efforts, and the child was rushed to hospital under emergency conditions. Despite these efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
The suspect or suspects had already left the area before police arrived.
The victim has been identified as 8-year-old JahVai Roy of Toronto.
Investigators are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a vehicle believed to be a white Acura.

Update: On September 10th, Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw announced that a 16-year-old male, who was 15 when the shooting occurred, has been charged with:
- First Degree Murder
- Possess Firearm Without Holding a Licence
- Possess Loaded Regulated Firearm
- Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm Knowingly Not Holding a Licence;
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
- Alter/Make Firearm Automatic
Police continue to search for two male suspects who remain outstanding on Canada-wide arrest warrants.
On Thursday, September 25, 2025, investigators executed a Criminal Code search warrant in London, Ontario, with the assistance of the London Police Service Emergency Response Unit. One of the outstanding suspects was located and arrested. The accused has been charged with First Degree Murder
On Sunday, October 19, 2025, the third accused, a youth, was located and arrested in Oshawa by the Durham Regional Police Service, in connection with a separate investigation.
The Toronto Police Service has charged the accused with:
- First Degree Murder
- Two counts of Fail to Comply with Undertaking
- Breach of Probation
He was scheduled to attend court virtually on Monday, October 20, 2025.
