Toronto police and Toronto Fire crews were called to a fire at a two-storey home on Rusholme Rd on August 28th, at around midnight.

Det. Sgt. Mike Taylor of the homicide unit told reporters that firefighters located Jessica Perez Ocampo and Roberto Mendez in the basement of the home. Ocampo was pronounced dead at the scene, and Mendez was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Taylor said “It is believed that Roberto is responsible for the death of Jessica Perez Ocampo.”

Police have not said how Campo died, just that she sustained “some trauma”.

The relationship between the deceased has not been revealed, however, police noted that Mendez lived in the home and Ocampo did not.
