Update: Sixth person charged – RCMP investigate the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Joedin Leger in Moncton

RcMp responded to the report of a shooting outside a home on Logan Lane in Monton on April 25th at approximately 6:10 a.m.

On arrival police and paramedics located 18-year-old Joedin Leger suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries. Police said another person was home at the time of the shooting and was not injured.

Police said the investigation determined that a car had pulled up to the residence, and four individuals stepped out and approached the house. Several shots were fired, and the suspects got back into the vehicle which fled the scene in the direction of Mountain Road.

Hans Ouellette with the New Brunswick RCMP. “We are especially interested in speaking to anyone who lives in the area of Logan Lane, Kendra Street and Noel Street and may have video surveillance footage, or who was driving through the area between 1 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on April 25th and may have witnessed the incident or have dash-cam footage.”

Update, RCMP announced on June 9, an 18-year-old man from Moncton was arrested on an unrelated matter. During the investigation, police determined that he was involved in the homicide.

On June 14, Riley Phillips,18, appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with first-degree murder. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on June 27 at 11 a.m.

On June 14th Hunter Nash England, 20, of Moncton was arrested and charged with first degree murder. Also, on June 16, a 23-year-old man was arrested in Moncton in connection with the investigation. He will appear in Moncton Provincial Court on June 17 at 09:30 a.m. Police did not reveal what charges the 23-year-old may be facing.

On June 16, 2022, 23-year-old Jerek John England was arrested in Moncton in connection with the investigation. On June 17, he appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with first degree murder. England, 23, is a corporal in the reserves who was assisting with a basic training course in Moncton when he was arrested. He has since been relieved of his duties.

Update: On June 29, 2022, an 18-year-old Moncton man was arrested in Riverview in connection with the homicide of Joedin Leger, and was charged with first-degree murder.

On July 6, 2022, 18-year-old Hayden Joseph James Leblanc was arrested in Moncton and was charged with first degree murder.

On July 13, 2022, 24-year-old Nicholas Joseph James McAvoy, from Irishtown, was arrested and charged with first degree murder. 

Update July 5th:
Following a preliminary inquiry a judge has decided five of the people charged with first-degree murder in the death will stand trial on lesser charges. Phillips faces a second-degree murder charge, while the four others are charged with manslaughter. The five also now face charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted robbery.
