Peterborough Police were called to the building at about 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025, where they found a man with critical injuries inside an apartment.
Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but the 33-year-old man was declared dead at the scene.
On December 18, 2025, Peterborough Police Service Investigative Services Unit and Belleville Police Service Tactical Team executed a warrant at a residence in Belleville. 28-year-old Peter Pople of Peterborough was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder.
Police said 29-year-old Kaya Coughlin was located and arrested on December 18th at Trinity Community Centre (Reid Street and Simcoe Street) and charged with manslaughter.
A third person, 44-year-old Michael Waterman is still being sought by police. Police are actively seeking information regarding his whereabouts.
Update: At around 3:00 p.m. on December 26, 2025, members of the Investigative Services Unit learned that the suspect was located in Peterborough. The Emergency Response Team (ERT) attended a home near Dalhousie Street and Aylmer Street. After police called out to him, the suspect came out of the residence and surrendered without incident.
Following this, 44-year-old Michael Waterman of Peterborough was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder.
