On July 2, 2023, the body of 30-year-old Miguel Suzor was found along a forest service road near Vernon, British Columbia.

The BC RCMP Major Crime Unit, with support from the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, soon took over the investigation.

Following an extensive and detailed investigative process, the case was forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for review.

On December 1, 2025, prosecutors approved a charge of second-degree murder against Dale Christopher Lloyd Babiy of Vernon. Babiy was taken into custody by the BC RCMP Major Crime Unit, where he remains.

The BC RCMP Major Crime Unit, together with multiple Okanagan RCMP detachments and specialized units from the Southeast District, played key roles in gathering evidence that ultimately led to the charge.
