Update: Daniel Michel Campion Charged – Peace River Alberta RCMP Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run Death of 74-year-old Hashi Guled at Petro-Canada in 2026; Suspect Sought After Stolen Taxi Incident

On April 23, 2026, at approximately 4:23 a.m., Peace River RCMP were called to the Petro-Canada located on 78 Street after a man was discovered deceased near the gas pumps. He has been identified as 74-year-old Hashi Guled.

When officers arrived, they secured the area and reviewed surveillance footage from the scene. The video reportedly shows a suspect stealing a vehicle, getting into the driver’s seat, and striking the victim, which resulted in his death. Police believe the incident actually occurred roughly two hours before it was reported.

The stolen vehicle involved in the incident has since been located and recovered by investigators.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is now leading the investigation and is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect and piecing together the vehicle’s movements between 2:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on April 23, 2026.

The vehicle is described as a red 2005 Dodge Caravan taxi with white business lettering on the doors, a white taxi light on the roof, and Alberta licence plate L98636.

The suspect was seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, a black T-shirt with a white design, black boots, and mismatched gloves—one grey and one black.

Update April 27th: Daniel Michel Campion was arrested and now faces charges of manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, and dangerous driving causing death.
