Campbell River RCMP responded to a report of a possible stabbing in the 1300 block of Dogwood Street, located in downtown Campbell River just before 2:00 a.m. on October 12, 2025.
A member of the RCMP’s Crime Prevention Unit, who was already patrolling the downtown area, was able to reach the scene within a minute of the call. The officer quickly identified and arrested a 29-year-old woman as she attempted to flee.
Additional officers arrived moments later and immediately began life-saving efforts on a 30-year-old female victim suffering from a critical stab wound. Despite the combined efforts of RCMP officers, Campbell River Fire, and BC Ambulance, the victim sadly died from her injuries.
According to Check News, the victim was identified as “30-year-old Victoria Nesbitt, who lived with a severe hearing impairment and communicated by writing on cardboard as she live unhoused on these streets.”
Later that evening, charges of Second Degree Murder were formally laid against 29-year-old Pauline Bruce. She remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
While several witnesses have already spoken with police, investigators believe there are others who left the scene before officers arrived. Anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police is urged to contact Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
