Manitoba RCMP’s Major Crime Services charge Corrections Officer in relation to an in-custody homicide of William Ahmo

Headingley RCMP responded to a report of an unresponsive male inmate at the Headingley Correctional Centre on February 7th 2021 at around 7:00pm.

It has been reported that there was a prolonged standoff between Correction Officers and an inmate in a common area within Headingley Correctional Centre. The inmate, 45-year-old William Ahmo was extracted by the facility’s Critical Emergency Response Team. Shmo was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries on February 14th.

An autopsy completed by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office of Manitoba determined that his death was the result of a homicide. As a result of the investigation Corrections officer, Robert Jeffrey Morden, 43, was arrested on January 21, 2022, and charged with Criminal Negligence Causing Death and Failing to Provide the Necessities of Life.
