On May 19, EMS were dispatched to the first 100 block of Cheltenham Cove for the report of an injured woman around 6 p.m. On arrival Officers found Kathleen Leary 66,  suffering from injuries to her upper body, Leary was rushed to hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.  Leary was attacked with three separate weapons including a knife, a metal rod and a hammer.

Police charged a youth who is known to the victim after finding him at the scene. He was later charged with first degree murder.
