IHIT Probes Fatal Shooting in Burnaby; One Man Dead, Vehicle Fire Possibly Linked

Burnaby RCMP officers responded to several reports of gunfire near Still Creek Avenue and Still Creek Drive in North Burnaby at around 5:30 p.m. on September 10, 2025.

Upon arrival, police found 34-year-old Shahaib Abasi who had died at the scene.

Roughly 15 minutes later, officers were called to a vehicle fire near Nursery Street and Lakefield Drive in South Burnaby. Investigators are now working to determine if the burning vehicle is connected to the earlier shooting.

While the investigation is still in its early stages, police believe the incident may have been targeted. There is no indication of an ongoing threat to public safety. IHIT is now leading the case, and further updates will come from their Media Relations Officer.
