The 2025 BC Homicide Victim List is available here

Police responded to an altercation at John B. Neighbourhood Pub on January 31st at approximately 9:45 p.m.

On arrival, police located a 35-year-old man suffering life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts from first responders, he died at the scene. The victim’s identity is not being released out of respect to his family’s privacy during this very difficult time.

Update: On February 1, 2025, the BC Prosecution Service approved one count of second-degree murder against 32-year-old Timothy Vansnick. He is under a provincial court detention order and his next court appearance is on March 3, 2025.

The other man who was arrested has been released without charges at this time. The investigation continues and there is no ongoing risk to the public.

We would like to thank the staff and patrons at the pub who rendered their assistance and did the right thing by cooperating with the police, says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. Their quick-thinking and willingness to help led to a swift arrest.

Update: On May 12, 2026, 33-year-old Mr. Vansnick pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of a 35-year-old victim. A sentencing hearing has been set for December 3 and 4, 2026, at the Port Coquitlam Law Courts.

IHIT Sgt. Freda Fong said that the guilty plea marks an important stage in the legal process. She also noted that, as sentencing approaches, investigators’ thoughts remain with the victim’s family, friends, and others affected by the loss.
