Halton Homicide detectives investigate a body found in a burnt-out vehicle in Burlington

Halton police and fire services responded to a vehicle fire in the area of 5463 Dundas Street west of Tremaine Road on November 27th at approximately 3:30 a.m. 

When the fire was extinguished, the body of a deceased person was located inside the vehicle. Halton police said the circumstances are suspicious and the Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. 

Police are asking anyone who traveled in the area of Dundas Street between Bronte Road & Appleby Line, and may have any dashcam footage from November 27 between 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. within the following area:

Highway 407 (north)

Appleby Line (west)

Bronte Road (east)

QEW / 403 (south)

Update December 6th
Halton Region police revealed the victim’s identity as 31-year-old Jerwin Belmonte of Edmonton, Alta. Police said the manner of death is a homicide, however, the cause of death has not been released. Belmonte had recently relocated to Toronto and was last seen alive in the area of Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue East in Toronto on the 26th of November 2022.
