Edmonton Homicide Unit investigating the suspicious death of an 85-year-old woman

Edmonton Police Southwest Branch patrol members responded to a check on welfare at a residence in the area of Ramsay Crescent and 42 Avenue on March 5th at approximately 10:15am.

On arrival police located a deceased 85-year-old female inside the residence. Police have not released the victim’s identity or cause of death at this time and said an autopsy hast yet to be scheduled. Homicide Section detectives continue to investigate.

Update: The victim has been identified as Dagmar Petersen, 85, and cause of death a blunt force head injury.

Update February 21st 2025: Justice Wayne Renke of the Court of King’s Bench acquitted Vini Buecken of second-degree murder in the death of 85-year-old Dagmar Petersen. According to the Edmonton Journal, Justice Renke determined that the Crown had failed to prove Vini Buecken’s (the victim’s Daughter) guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. This decision was influenced by unresolved questions regarding the presence of male DNA found near Dagmar Petersen’s bloodied body.
