Fort Vermilion RCMP responded to a report of a male suffering from a gunshot wound On May 16, 2024, at approximately 3 a.m.

EMS said the victim succumbed to his injuries on route to the hospital. The cause of death is believed to be suspicious.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was deployed and has taken carriage of the investigation. The deceased has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner where an autopsy will take place.
