Edmonton, Alberta 2026 Homicide Victim List

On Thursday, July 9, 2026, at around 6:44 p.m., Edmonton police responded to reports of an unresponsive woman with suspicious injuries at a home in the Silverberry neighbourhood. A man was arrested at the scene shortly after officers arrived.

Emergency Medical Services provided medical care before transporting 23-year-old Damanpreet Kaur to hospital in critical condition. She later died from her injuries on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

An autopsy completed by the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, has confirmed that Kaur’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

An autopsy on July 14, 2026, determined that Kaur, died as a result of strangulation.

The man arrested in connection with the case remains in custody, and charges are expected. Investigators say they are not looking for any additional suspects at this time.

Update July 24th
Ritish Kumar was arrested on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, and charged with second-degree murder.

This death is considered an intimate partner homicide. Police are not seeking any additional suspects at this time.
