Missing Since 2023: Toronto Police Now Investigating Taron Stepanyan’s Disappearance as Possible Homicide

Toronto Police announced a significant development in the search for Taron Stepanyan, who has been missing since December 2023. Detectives now believe his disappearance may be the result of a homicide.

Detective Sergeant Phillip Campbell from the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit confirmed that, based on new information uncovered during the investigation, the case has been elevated from a missing person investigation to a suspected homicide.

Taron Stepanyan was 40 years old when he was reported missing. He was last seen on the night of Saturday, December 23, 2023, leaving his home at 20 Chichester Place, near Victoria Park Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East.

The investigation has been led by Toronto Police 42 Division, with continued involvement from the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit. While police are not releasing details about the evidence that led to this determination, they say the circumstances surrounding Taron’s disappearance now strongly suggest foul play.

“This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” Detective Sergeant Campbell said, noting that sharing further details could compromise police efforts. He added that investigators are following all available leads to determine what happened to Taron.

Police are also reminding the public that anyone who may have helped after the fact—such as assisting in the destruction or concealment of evidence—could face criminal charges. Investigators are urging anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to come forward now.

Officers will be canvassing the neighbourhood where Taron was last seen and speaking with residents who may have information related to the case.

Taron is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, approximately 229 pounds, with short brown hair, a brown-and-grey beard, and brown eyes.
