On the evening of June 30th, at approximately 7:46 p.m., Abbotsford Police officers responded to reports of a violent altercation at a home in the 36000 block of McKee Road.

When officers arrived on the scene, they entered the residence and sadly found two adults deceased inside. Police have confirmed that this was an isolated event confined to a single household, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

The investigation is still in its early stages. Additional policing resources have been brought in to support the case as it unfolds. The Abbotsford Police Department’s Major Crime Unit has now handed over the investigation to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), which will take the lead moving forward.

Update: Preliminary findings indicate the incident involved an 80-year-old man and woman who lived together at the residence. IHIT said, based on the current investigation, police believe this was a case of intimate partner violence resulting in a murder-suicide.

Authorities have confirmed that there are no outstanding suspects and no threat to public safety at this time.

“This was a deeply tragic event and a shock to the community,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Our thoughts are with the families of the victims, the first responders who attended the scene, and the surrounding community members impacted by this loss.”
