Two Men Charged with Second-Degree Murder After Fatal Assault in Saint-Joseph-de-Madawaska, N.B.

On the night of May 30, 2025, around 11:43 p.m., officers from the Saint-Léonard RCMP responded to a report of an assault involving a weapon and three men at a business on 2nd Sault Road in Saint-Joseph-de-Madawaska. When police arrived, they found a 29-year-old man outside the building with serious injuries. Despite efforts to help, the man died at the scene.

A few hours later, a 37-year-old man from Edmundston was taken into custody in Saint-Léonard without incident. That same day, a 36-year-old man from Saint-Jacques was also arrested by the Edmundston Police Force.

Both suspects—identified as Bruce Dufour, 37, and Tony Dufour, 36—were formally charged with second-degree murder during a tele-remand appearance in Edmundston Provincial Court. They have been held in custody and are scheduled to return to court on June 2, 2025, at 9:30 a.m.

The New Brunswick RCMP Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation, with support from the Forensic Identification Services, the Community Crime Reduction Unit, and the New Brunswick Coroner’s Office.
