The Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS) has launched a homicide investigation after a 33-year-old Mylene Masson-Bassette was found dead inside a home in the city’s east end on May 30th.
Police say they were alerted by Masson-Bessette’s family, who were concerned for her safety. When officers arrived at the residence on Friday evening, they found her deceased. Bilodeau was taken into custody at the scene and later questioned by investigators on Saturday.
Joey Bilodeau, 28, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Mylene Masson-Bessette. The charge was formally laid during a videoconference on Saturday afternoon.
Authorities have not revealed the cause of death, saying that releasing those details could interfere with the ongoing investigation. Forensic teams examined the scene on Saturday, and police have been gathering witness statements as part of their investigation.
