Police said the incident began on September 4, 2023, when a 911 call prompted a welfare check at an apartment building in the 300 block of Albert Street West. Officers arrived around 8:30 p.m. and were allowed inside the unit, where they found an unresponsive child.

Police administered naloxone and performed CPR until paramedics arrived, but sadly, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy later confirmed that the child had died from a fentanyl overdose.

After a lengthy investigation, detectives arrested the accused on March 5, 2025. The individual has been charged with manslaughter and remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Police Chief Hugh Stevenson commented on the case, emphasizing the community impact of fentanyl and law enforcement’s ongoing efforts to hold those responsible for its distribution accountable.
