Charges against Winston Campbell have been withdrawn in connection to the 2022 homicide of 2-year-old Olivia Hayden in Calgary

Calgary police were called to a residence located in the 0 to 100 block of Bannister Manor S.E., for reports of a toddler in medical distress on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022.

The child, Olivia Hayden was transported to hospital by EMS, where she was declared deceased.

Following an extensive investigation by the Homicide Unit and an autopsy completed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the death was deemed a homicide.

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Winston CAMPBELL, 45, of Calgary, was arrested and has been charged with one count of manslaughter.

Update: On Friday June 6th, 2025, the Crown dropped the manslaughter charge against Winston Campbell, a 46-year-old Calgary man accused in the 2022 death of two-year-old Olivia Hayden. At the time of the incident, Campbell was casually involved with the child’s mother.

His lawyer, Cory Wilson, said Campbell is relieved by the decision and has consistently maintained his innocence, pointing out that there was no evidence he had any contact with the child the night she died.

Crown prosecutor Rose Greenwood explained the charge was withdrawn after the preliminary hearing, as there was no longer a reasonable prospect of securing a conviction. The case had involved detailed medical findings and multiple witness accounts. Campbell is now exploring legal options in response to the personal and reputational harm he says the case has caused him.
