Sudbury police were called to the report of a shooting at Overtime Sports Bar on Notre Dame Avenue on April 21st at 10:30 p.m.
On arrival police located a 22-year-old man suffering from serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.
Police said the suspect, a 16-year-old boy, fled the area prior to police arrival.
On April 29th the Toronto Police Service arrested the 16-year-old suspect in relation to the Sudbury homicide. The youth has been charged with
- Murder
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Carrying concealed weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number

Update July 14th 2026: A Sudbury judge has found a 19-year-old guilty of second-degree murder in the 2023 shooting death of 22-year-old Joema Ray “Joe” Cabigon.
Originally charged with first-degree murder, Justice Susan Stotthart ruled the Crown failed to prove the killing was deliberate, a requirement for a first-degree conviction. The judge found the shooting was planned but concluded there was not enough evidence to show the teen, who was 16 at the time of the offence, had carefully considered his actions before carrying them out.
