Winnipeg police responded to the 300 block of Assiniboine Avenue for a report of an assault on September 22, 2024, at approximately 1:15 p.m.
Attending officers were alerted by members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service that they were providing emergency medical care to an unconscious female in the common area of an apartment building. Police said the female appeared to be the victim of an assault and was suffering from serious injuries. She was transported in critical condition where she died of her injuries.
The victim has been identified as 52-year-old Lucy Wood.
Jules DESJARLAIS, 20, of Winnipeg was arrested and he has been charged with the following:
- Second Degree Murder
- Assault x 2
- Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
