Grand Rapids RCMP responded to a report of a shooting in a residence, located in Misipawistik Cree Nation on September 23, 2024, at approximately 12:35 am.

On arrival police located a 23-year-old male from the community, who had been shot and was pronounced deceased on scene.

RCMP arrested a 16-year-old male, from Chemawawin, who has been charged with numerous firearms-related offences and has been remanded into custody.
