Update: Suspect Anthony Deschepper, fatally shot by Niagara police – Tragic Shooting in Brampton Claims Life of Woman Near Airport Rd and Queen St E

Peel Regional Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at a strip mall, near the intersection of Airport Road and Queen Street East in Brampton on October 21st, just before 2:00 pm.

According to information shared by police, an adult female victim was shot and received medical attention from paramedics. Sadly, the woman later succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The suspect, 38-year-old Anthony Deschepper, is believed to have fled the area in a black 2024 Nissan Kicks with Quebec license plate FRV4520. His one-year-old daughter, was in the back seat of the vehicle but was later located by police in good health.

A child who was the focus of an Amber Alert has been found safe, though the suspect remains at large and is allegedly linked to the fatal shooting.

The alert, issued shortly before 5 p.m., was for a missing one-year-old girl from Brampton. Police say the child has since been located safely after reportedly being dropped off with relatives.

The suspect, 38-year-old Anthony Deschepper, is wanted in connection with the case. He is believed to be driving a 2024 black Nissan Kicks with Quebec licence plate FRV4520. Deschepper is described as five-foot-nine, 175 pounds, clean-shaven, with brown hair. He was last seen wearing a blue hoodie, blue jeans, and carrying a black crossbody bag. Police warn he is armed and dangerous.

Investigators have confirmed the abduction is tied to the homicide.

Update: Niagara and Peel regions were searching for Deschepper, who was believed to be in Crystal Beach. A shelter-in-place order was issued but later lifted when evidence showed the suspect had left the area.

In the early hours of October 22, around 2:30 a.m., police located the suspect, Anthony Deschepper, 38, in a vehicle at a gas station near Thorold Stone Road and Montrose Road. During an interaction with the NRPS Emergency Task Unit, Deschepper was fatally shot. The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is now investigating the officer-involved shooting.
