Charges laid: Toronto Homicide #42 – Police declare the death of Shahriyar Safarian, in the Slam Restaurant fire a homicide

Toronto police responded to a working fire at the Slam Restaurant located at 3685 Keele Street on July 10th at approximately 3:00am.

It has been reported that a fire was deliberately set at the restaurant. Police arrived to find Shahriyar Safarian, 18, of Richmond Hill with obvious injuries as a result of the fire. Safarian was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Police said the Toronto police Homicide Unit took over the investigation on Monday, July 26th.

On June 9th, 2022, Toronto police Major Crime Unit located and arrested Arian Ghasemmanesh, in the Parkway Forest Drive and Sheppard Avenue East area, and charged him with:

  1. Manslaughter
  2. Arson-Disregard for Human Life
