Update: Three charged – Saint John Police investigate the fatal shooting of a man

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at around 10:28 a.m., Saint John police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Carmarthen Street at King Street East

When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old man dead inside a vehicle. His family has been notified.

Witnesses reported seeing three suspects fleeing the scene on foot, heading down Carmarthen Street toward Union Street.

The suspects are described as:

  • A white male with brown hair, wearing a dark jacket
  • A non-white male dressed in a light blue hoodie and dark pants
  • A white male wearing dark clothing

On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, 20-year-old Hayden Donald-Bentley appeared in Provincial Court and was charged with first-degree murder. A 17-year-old youth, who cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with first-degree murder.

On May 15, 2025, 30-year-old Sheldon Scrubb appeared in Provincial Court and was charged with first-degree murder.
