Peel police were alerted at approximately 7:00pm by the Mother of Riya Rajkumar, 11, that her daughter had not been returned to her home by her father 41-year-old, Roopesh Rajkumar on February 14th. Riya was out with her father, celebrating her birthday.

Police said Roopesh made comments indicating he was going to harm himself and his daughter. An amber alert was issued at 11:36pm announcing the abduction and that police were searching for Roopesh Rajkumar who was driving a silver Honda Civic, last seen Eastbound on the 401.

Officer Mooken said that shortly after the amber alert was announced, Riya was found dead inside her father’s home. A member of the public spotted Roopesh in the Honda Civic in Orillia Ontario and alerted police. Police said Roopesh is facing a charge of first-degree murder in relation to the death of his daughter.

Update, February 21st
Roopesh Rajkumar died from a self inflicted gunshot wound on Wednesday February 20, 2019 while a patient at the trauma centre.
