Manitoba First Nations Police Service responded to a report of a sudden death at a residence on Canupawakpa Dakota Nation on July 26, 2024 at approximately 9:10 am.

Police and paramedics located a 42-year-old male from the community, deceased with obvious injuries. The cause of death has not been released.

On July 29, 2024, Marissa Jean Benn, 36, of Canupawakpa Dakota Nation, was charged with Manslaughter. She has been remanded into custody.
