Lauren Lafleche charged in the 2015 death of her 5 year old daughter

Edmonton police have laid charges in the October 16, 2015 death of Shalaina Arcand 5.

Police and paramedics were called to a home in the area of 116 Avenue and 124 Street on October 12, 2015, on a report of an injured girl. Paramedics rushed 5 year old Shalaina to the hospital where she was being treated for a head injury. Shalaina died of her injury on October 16, 2015.

According to police, an autopsy report was recently finalized in October 2016, and revealed the cause of death to be head trauma.

Lauren Lafleche 29, the mother of Shalaina has been charged with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon.

Update November 17th, 2020
On Monday November 16th, Lauren Lafleche, pleaded not guilty on the first day of a two-week trial to second-degree murder, assault with a weapon, and failure to provide the necessaries of life. The weapons listed as evidence are a belt and a spatula.
