On March 22, 2025, at around 3:10 a.m., Winnipeg police responded to a domestic assault at a residence on Selkirk Avenue.

Officers found a severely injured woman, Stephanie Anderson-Paupaneikis, 33, and provided emergency care before she was rushed to the hospital. Despite efforts to save her, she later died from her injuries.

Police notified her family, and it was confirmed that she was a member of Norway House First Nation, living in Winnipeg since 2024.

With help from the K9 unit, a 40-year-old man, Jason Matthew Keam, was found nearby and arrested. He has been charged with second-degree murder and is in custody.
