Murder charge laid in relation to a violent attack in Newfoundland

Hopedale RCMP, Labrador District General Investigation Section and the RCMP Major Crime Unit are investigating the homicide of a 44-year-old man who died on July 23rd.

RCMP said the victim was violently assaulted on May 11, and died from his injuries on July 23rd. Police have not released any information in relation to the assault. The victim’s identity will not be released at this time.

Police said they are treating the death as a homicide, and no charges have been laid at this time.

Update November 14th
 Investigation by Hopedale RCMP, Labrador District General Investigation Section and the RCMP Major Crime Unit has lead to the arrest of 19-year-old Daniel Onalik of Hopedale. Onalik was arrested on November 13th and charged with second degree murder in the death of a 44-year-old man.
