The investigation began on May 21, when Antigonish County District RCMP responded to a report of a deceased man found outdoors on Arthurs Point Lane at approximately 7 p.m. Due to the suspicious nature of the death, the Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit (SWN MCU) assumed responsibility for the case.

On May 26, the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service officially ruled John Pettipas, 42, death a homicide.

Investigators say evidence gathered so far indicates the incident was targeted, and they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public.
