Update: Three Youths and two adults charged – Hamilton homicide 4 – Police investigate the homicide of Danielle Strauss on Ferguson Ave. N

Hamilton police were called to 195 Ferguson Ave. N in Hamilton for reports of a deceased woman who was found in her apartment. Police believe the victim died late Sunday November 6th or early Monday November 7th.

Police said the victim was located by her superintendent during a pest control check.

The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Danielle Strauss of Hamilton. The cause of death is not being released as it remains evidence.

Investigators are looking to speak to four youths that were observed on camera leaving the residence.

  • Two white 16-year-old males
  • One white 14-year-old female
  • One black 14-year-old female

Investigators are encouraging these youths to contact the homicide unit as we believe they have direct information pertaining to this homicide investigation.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Kevin Heyink of the Hamilton Police Service Homicide Unit at 905-546-2288.

Update November 29th
Hamilton police have arrested a 15-year-old female and a 16-year-old male. Both have been charged with second-degree murder in relation to the homicide of Danielle Strauss. Police said the cause of death is not being released as it remains evidence. Given the age of the suspects and the fact the case is before the courts, additional information will not be released. 

Update December 6th
Hamilton police charged 40-year-old female with accessory after the fact of murder in relation to the homicide. The woman is the mother of the wanted 16-year-old. Police allege she helped her son escape the country.  Police believe the wanted teen travelled to Czech Republic sometime after the Nov. 7 homicide. The Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits the investigators from releasing the most recently accused’s identity as it may lead to the identity of one of the youths charged with second-degree murder. The accused will make a brief court appearance in the morning of December 7th at the John Sopinka Courthouse.

Update December 7
Hamilton Police have arrested a 42-year-old female in connection with the murder. The 42-year-old female was charged with accessory after the fact of murder in relation to the Strauss homicide. This charge is related to the 16-year-old male youth currently in custody.  

Update January 4th
On December 31, 2022, Hamilton police homicide detectives were made aware that the 16-year-old suspect was enroute back to Canada from Czechia. He was arrested without incident at Pearson International Airport later that day.  The youth appeared in court and has been remanded into custody.
