Dakota Johnson and Byron Cardinal charged in the Edmonton homicide of Tjijandjeua Gift Tjaveondja

Edmonton police responded to a stabbing in the area of 118 Avenue and 97 Street on March 17th at approximately 12:15 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers located Tjijandjeua Gift Tjaveondja, 30, suffering from serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on Tjaveondja and determined his cause of death to be a stab wound to the chest. The manner of death was homicide.

Dakota Johnson, 31, was arrested and charged with second degree murder and assault with a weapon in relation to Tjaveondja’s death. Johnson and Tjaveondja were not known to one another.

On March 22nd police announced Byron Cardinal, 32, was also arrested and charged with second degree murder and assault with a weapon in relation to Tjaveondja’s death. The two men were not known to one another.
