On January 23rd Alberta RCMP responded to the report of a suspicious item in an apartment in the Rivercrest Crescent area of St. Albert. According to reports, building staff contacted authorities after discovering a suspicious item while carrying out an eviction-related inspection of the unit.

Police said they located human remains and believe they belong to 23-year-old Ayla Egotik-Learn. RCMP believe the killing occurred in early December. Investigators also believe Ayla’s nine-month-old daughter, Braylee, also died, based on the overall evidence gathered so far. However, her remains have not yet been recovered.

Police arrested Christopher William Beasley, 33, at a St. Albert Hotel, and charged him with one count of second-degree murder and two counts of indignity to a body.

Investigators said Beasley was in a common-law relationship with Egotik-Learn and was Braylee’s father. Court records show that Beasley pleaded guilty last July to assaulting Egotik-Learn between February and late April, and was sentenced to 18 months of probation.
