The Ontario Provincial Police in Bracebridge are asking for the public’s help in locating a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting and house fire that occurred on the night of Friday, August 1, 2025.
At around 8:00 p.m., police responded to reports of gunshots at a home on Beatrice Town Line Road. When officers arrived, they found 60-year-old Paul GREY dead, and the house fully engulfed in flames. Two others were found dead inside the home. Their identities have not yet been confirmed and will be determined after post-mortem examinations.
A large-scale search for the suspect began with assistance from the OPP’s Emergency Response Team, Tactical Response Unit, and Central Region Canine Unit. Authorities issued a shelter-in-place advisory, which remained in effect until 1:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 2.
Police are now searching for 29-year-old Mitchell GRAY of Bracebridge, who is wanted for murder. He is described as a white man, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, with light brown hair and facial hair. Investigators do not believe he poses an immediate risk to the public.
Update August 6th: The individual wanted in connection with the ongoing death and arson investigation in Bracebridge has been confirmed deceased.
Further investigation revealed two additional deceased individuals inside the residence. Postmortem examinations confirmed one as 29-year-old Mitchell GRAY from Bracebridge, who was wanted for murder. His cause of death was smoke inhalation. The second individual, a 59-year-old Anita GRAY of Bracebridge, died from a gunshot wound.
The investigation continues under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner, the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, and the Office of the Fire Marshal.
