A six-year-old girl in The Pas died after suffering severe injuries that were initially reported as the result of a fall. She was taken to a local hospital on October 29, 2024, and later airlifted to Winnipeg, where she died in November 2024 from a traumatic head injury.

An investigation by Royal Canadian Mounted Police determined the injuries were actually caused by an assault that took place the day before she was hospitalized.

In April 2026, police arrested two caregivers responsible for the child’s wellbeing. Ashley Morach faces charges including manslaughter, failure to provide necessities of life, and obstruction of justice, while Joel Morach is charged with failure to provide necessities of life.
