The 2021 New Brunswick Homicide Victim List is available here
The investigation into the death of Courtney MacKenzie began on May 11, 2021, when she was found dead at a residence in Saint John, New Brunswick. Police initially described the circumstances as suspicious and launched a major crime investigation, noting that homicide had not been ruled out. Over the following months, investigators worked to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and analyze forensic and digital records as the case continued to develop.
Nearly two years later, in April 2023, police made their first arrest in connection with the case. A 34-year-old woman was charged with improperly interfering with human remains and was also linked to several other investigations. She was later released with conditions and scheduled to appear in court. Around the same time, a 36-year-old man was arrested but released without charges.
The investigation progressed significantly in April 2026, when police announced multiple new arrests following what they described as a lengthy and complex effort by the Major Crime Unit. On April 21, a 39-year-old man was arrested and charged with manslaughter, along with several other serious offences, including kidnapping, assault, and robbery. A 40-year-old man was also arrested the same day and charged as an accessory after the fact and with interfering with human remains. While the 39-year-old remained in custody, the 40-year-old was later released with conditions.
The following day, April 21, 2026, police made a third arrest, taking a 37-year-old woman into custody. She faces charges including being an accessory after the fact, interfering with human remains, forcible confinement, robbery, and assault in relation to both MacKenzie’s death and a separate incident involving another woman. She was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court in July 2026.
After years of investigation, authorities say these arrests mark significant progress in seeking justice for MacKenzie, though the case continues to move through the court system.
