Police were called to a building on the 400 block of Sargent Avenue Friday night after receiving a report about a woman who had been stabbed. When officers arrived, they found the woman suffering from a serious stab wound.

While waiting for an ambulance, police administered emergency medical care. The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead. She was identified as 37-year-old Rachel Muswagon, originally from Norway House Cree Nation but living in Winnipeg.

A male suspect was arrested inside the apartment without incident. Dustin Cody Swampy, 29, was charged with second-degree murder.
