Valleyview RCMP responded to a report of a male who had been assaulted and was suffering from serious lacerations to his body at a residence on Sturgeon Lake First Nation, Alta on November 8th, 2023.

36-year-old Aaron Bellcourt was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy conducted by the Edmonton Medical Examiners Office determined that the victim, Bellcourt, had died as a result of his injuries and the death was deemed a homicide.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old individual, a resident of Red Deer, Alta., a 30-year-old individual, and a 23-year-old individual, both residents of Valleyview, were charged with first-degree murder. They were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. RCMP said all three are to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on June 24, 2024.
