Update: charges laid one year after the homicide – 18-year-old Mehakpreet Sethi fatally stabbed outside a Surrey School

Surrey RCMP responded to the report of a stabbing in a school parking lot located in the 12600-block of 66 Avenue on November 22nd at 12:08pm.

On arrival police located an 18-year-old male suffering from serious injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts from police and paramedics, the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Police have arrested one possible 17-year-old suspect. No charges have been laid at this time. The investigation is ongoing and The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called and will be working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP.

Update Novembeer 24th
The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Mehakpreet Sethi of Surrey. Investigators said it was an isolated incident and is not believed to be associated to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict.

Update: On November 21, 2023, the BC Prosecution Service charged the suspect, now 18 years old, with second-degree murder, in relation to the death of Mehakpreet Sethi.
As the suspect was a Young Offender at the time of the homicide, his name will not be released publicly.
